Lorenz Potocnik is an architect based in Vienna and Linz. He specializes in experimental and process-oriented projects and planning in the field of urbanism. His particular interest is on the production and mediation of the future.
He co-founded the architectural collective feld72 which has been honoured with several international awards including the Austrian State Award for Experimental Architecture for their "urban strategies". Potocnik left feld72 in 2004 to pursue in project-related working groups and freelance.
He was a research fellow at MIT in 2008, working to develop "Hummus 2050", a visionary large scale and long term initiative that aims to transform the East Mediterranean Region.
Potocnik was teaching at University of Applied Arts in Linz (department of Architecture and space & design strategies) from 2003 to 2011 and is a member of the board of directors of afo architekturforum oberösterreich.
Born in Vienna in 1971, Potocnik spent time growing up in Paris and Geneva and went on to train at the Vienna University of Technology, School of Architecture in Portsmouth (GB) and Delft University of Technology (NL). He also served in an alternative civilian service in Tel Aviv from 1999-2000 and has traveled extensively in the former Eastern Bloc and the Middle East. He is father of Vivian born in 2001 and Coco born in 2012.
