Julia Gaisbacher in cooperation with Barbi Markovic

Exhibitionopening: 15.03.2018, 18:00

Julia Gaisbacher started her examination of urban transformation processes in Belgrade and its sociopolitical consequences during her artist residency, granted by the state of Styria, and resulting in the ongoing photographic series One Day You Will Miss Me in 2017. Focusing on the exemplary real estate development project Waterfront Julia Gaisbacher explored the political entanglement in this disproportionate investment project. She is constantly revisiting Belgrade to document the building site and its impact on the neighboring historic districts expanding the ongoing project with each visit.

In cooperation with the author Barbi Markovic, Julia Gaisbacher further deepened her analysis of Belgrade’s urban development. Reflecting on Waterfront's marketing strategies and its discrepancy concerning Belgrade's everyday life Markovic's text and Gaisbacher's photo series will be published in Lichtungen, a journal for literature and arts.

Lichtungen’s next issue and the artistic cooperation’s result will be presented at Leipzig Book Fair. Parallel to the publication an extract of Markovic’s text together with photographs by Julia Gaisbacher will be published on ZEIT online’s literature platform FREITEXT.
